Ibiza

The bohemian Ibiza offers the most fashionable locations, never-ending parties and a hippy, happy, atmosphere. Ibiza is the third largest island of the Balearics and its capital is Ibiza town with a total population of 43,000 people.

Ibiza’s different history provides another variation in architecture and culture. The island has been occupied by the Phoenicians, the Greeks, the Carthages, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Moors, the Norwegians and finally, by the Kingdom of Aragon.

Ibiza has two official languages, Spanish and Catalan. The local dialect of Catalan is Ibizenco and most people from Ibiza are bilingual in both languages.

Again, tourism and business tourism are the mainstays, approximately 70% of its GDP, of the economy and the salt and handcraft industries are other important sectors.

Ibiza shares its larger sister islands’ Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot bright summers. The average temperature is 15ºC during the winter and 27ºC during the summer so Ibiza is a great all year round MICE destination.

A typical dish from the island is “Bullit de Peix” which is boiled fish with potatoes. This used to be the main diet of the fishermen. The “flao” is a cheese and mint pie very well known in the area.
