Dusseldorf

GTAssociates DusseldorfShop like an Arab Sheikh, eat pastry like the Pope and enjoy one of the Rhine’s best promenades.

Is Dusseldorf really the dour city in which the eighties cult series Auf Weidersehen was shot.

Dusseldorf and dour definitely do not belong in the same sentence. Auf Weidersehen was not shot here and the “Boys from the North” would be amazed at the quirky architecture of the Media Harbour District – Mediahafen. If you think that the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is cutting edge modern check out the architect Frank Gehry’s fabulously strange Der Neue Zollhof office block.

Some of the buildings are so amazing you will think that you had spent the day checking out Dusseldorf’s “the longest bar in the world”.

Dusseldorf or Die Stadt Senf” as locals call it is so hot on fashion it rivals Paris & Milan but it was another world famed export that was immortalized on canvas in 1884. Die Stadt Senf or “The City of Mustard” is second only to Dijon for mustard export and Vincent van Gogh, we assume, was so impressed he created a still life of Dusseldorf’s mustard.

Clothes smart locals claim Konigsallee (Ko) is Europe’s smartest shopping promenade. The Ko’s wide boulevard is rated, by locals at least, as better than Milan for its chic boutiques, galleries and pavement cafes. Small wonder that sheiks and princes fly in from the Gulf with to buy up half the street.

The pavement cafes & pastry shops have another impressive fan – Dusseldorf is said to have the Pope’s favourite pastry shop.  And for avant garde art check out the Flingern districts fab arty/bohemian scene.

It is not just Ko that is hot on pavement cafes and restaurants – in the mid 90’s the five lane Rhine side highway went underground … and in its place a two mile promenade of bars, cafes and restaurants with magnificent views.

The Allstadt might be small but the night life is impressive – over 300 bars and clubs in one long street.

Mustard City is not only hot on fashion but is rated as Germany’s advertising/media capital and home to many telecomms companies as well as banking.

And hot on MICE – Dusseldorf CCD Congress Centre is one of Europe’s finest and able to host 66,000 pax.  And Dusseldorf has a wide range of hotels able to accommodate incentive groups as well as conference attendees.

So whatever your event The Mustard City can make your MICE hot. All you need to add is albamy DMC.
