Cochin Sri Lanka

Cochin – The Queen of The Arabian Sea

The English claimed Cochin as ‘Mini England’, the Dutch called it ‘Homely Holland’ and the Portuguese referred to the port as ‘Little Lisbon’.

Tappas Voyages love it for creating great travel incentives in and around the city as well as twinning Cochin with Kerala backwater trips.

500 hundred years ago Cochin became the site of a Portuguese colonial city – few cities in the world can claim such a history or show off the buildings developed during such a long colonial rule.

The Spice Route passed through Cochin, whose port was developed for the spice trade, and life in Cochin is still spiced up. Just check out Cochin fine dining – delightful elegantly spiced dishes.

Not to be missed in Cochin is the sea turning pink during sunsets, especially if aboard a boat with drink in hand, followed by a stunning Kalaripayattu or Kathakali pre dinner performance. And dinner will perform a dance on your taste buds and you can follow this with a night in one of the elegant bar/club lounges.

Each stunning for different reasons. Kalaripayattu is the world’s oldest martial art discipline, acrobatic and balletic. dance is amazingly theatrical with beautifully jewelled and costumed performers. Kathakali is rooted in Kerala’s ancient heritage; with every hand, arm and finger gesture telling a tale of mythical deities, demons and sages.
